The B1432

The B1432 : Speed Limit

The Parish Council is very aware of the concerns and issues re the existing speed limit on the B1432 and has continually pressed DCC over many years for a reduction in the speed limit.

However the Parish Council itself has no powers in this respect.

A joint meeting, chaired by DCC Cllr Angela Surtees was held with Parish Councillors, officers from Durham Council Council and the Police in February 2022. Whilst affirming that the speed limit itself was unlikely to be reduced, DCC did come forward with proposals for new road markings and signage.

These are shown below.

The lining works attached outline introducing rumble strips either side of the crossroads with enhanced slow markings as well as recovering all of the road markings associated with the crossroads.

Signing proposals include a new village name plate sign to replace the existing black and white one which we intend to relocate closer to the built up area to further aid drivers realisation they are entering the village itself.  Furthermore, the crossroads sign plates will be yellow backed with the inclusion of supplementary sign plates, reading ‘REDUCE SPEED NOW’ in both directions, illustrated in the sign schedules attached.

We now await these to be implemented, and will then review the situation.
